Fears

Fears
Written by Anastasia
April 11, 2014

*This is not a poem, but something I wrote several months ago*

Fear is something that comes naturally to everyone -- no matter their age. Humiliation and failure aren't the types of fear I'm talking about, but fears like the dark, monsters, closets, etc. Many people have grown up with the constant fear of entering dark places, or looking in the closet, or being left alone, but it was most likely that they overcame that fear as they grew up. All humans have at least one irrational fear, especially of the dark -- children being the main victim of this prodigious fear..... but usually it isn't the fear of the darkness itself, but rather the creatures and entities that lie in its confined and secretive spots, which brings us to a question: Why are we frightened by these things that we do not even know? Of course, the human race has always been afraid of the things they could not control since we are a very dominant species, but why are so many monsters depicted to live and linger in the mystifying darkness? Why are so many monsters delineated as grotesque and to have hideous appearance features? Horror movies have always focused on one specific genre, but the monsters and demons in them have always been depicted in a similar form. Sometimes things are adapted and handed down, right? Like the Grimm Brothers' fairy tales -- which are still a source of entertainment now, but at least we can still track down these fairy tales to its original source. Although the same thing can't be said for monsters. What exactly lies in the dark? Where did any of these darkness phobias appear from? What made us so terrified of these monsters? Most importantly, where did any of our fears come from?

Rules/Guidelines:
*Thank the blogger or bloggers who nominated you.
*Answer the 11 questions asked.
*Nominate 3 other blogs with less than 200 followers.
*Ask them 11 new questions.

Let's move on with the questions the amazing/fantasical/awesome Beth and Savanna asked!

1. What's the one book you'd recommend to everyone?

The one book I'd recommend to everyone? Well, this is pretty cliched, but Harry Potter by J.K Rowling. Harry Potter is the book that got me into reading and I'm really glad I read it. If you haven't already read this amazing series, do so as soon as you can!

2. If you could wear any fictional character's clothes, who's would you wear and why?

Thalia Grace from the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series. I really like Thalia's style and quite frankly, that type of clothing freaks my mom out XD But it's mostly because I like black leather jackets. Don't even ask :P

3. What is the weirdest book you've read?

The weirdest book I've read? I can't guarantee that the book's weird, but: Are You There, God? It's Me Margaret, which I believe is written by Judy Blume. It's supposed to be talking about the struggles of a tween girl named Margaret as she goes through puberty and life and everything, but it's just weird. She and a group of friends were looking at the male anatomy together because they were curious. Margaret also stuffed tissue paper in her dress to make her breasts look larger... And, yeah... It also talks a bit about one of her 12 year old classmates having sex with an older guy and how their male teacher has a crush on that classmate?? O__O And Margaret and her three friends also anticipated their period, which is strange, to me. Margaret prayed to God once because her three friends got their period already and she didn't and she thought she thought there was something wrong with her. Weird... There's also a few other things that I won't mention...

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is sort of tied, though. I stopped halfway through the book because... no.

4. What's your most hated hyped book ever?

I personally think that the hype around the release of a new book ruins it, so I've strayed away from the new releases that have a lot of negative reviews circulating it. So, I don't really have an answer for this, though. If I did have an answer, I think it'd be The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer even though I haven't read it yet. I've been meaning to, but I sort of got disinterested after seeing all the bad reviews on it.

5. Do you ever connect songs to books and if so, what are some examples?
I know I do this a lot, but I just can't seem to remember them right now. I do remember two, though.

I compared Forever & Always, by Parachute, to The Fault in Our Stars. If you've read the book/seen the movie and heard the song, you'd know why.
I compared Say Something, by A Great Big World, to If I Stay, though it wasn't because of the trailer.

6. Would you rather become a professional book reviewer or author?

Author, of course. I've been an aspiring writer for a while now.

7. What is the next book release you are most anticipating?

To be honest, I don't know. All the book releases I've been anticipating this year have already came out and I haven't been keeping up with books in the past month or so. I've been a little caught up in writing. :)

8. Which series would you choose to continue and what would you write the next book about?

The Hunger Games. [A few spoilers if you haven't read Mockingjay] I would write the next book about what happened after the Capitol was destroyed and the family Katniss and Peeta has. That sort of stuff. :)

9. What would you last longer without, books or reading? How long would you last?

Reading, I think. I don't know why xD I think I would maybe last a month or two. I'd find myself immersed in something else despite my passion for books and the infinite adventures I can find in them without even leaving my seat.

10. What would you say is you're favourite soundtrack to a movie or musical?

The Les Miserables soundtrack. <3 I love Les Miserables, though I haven't read the book.

11. If you could bring any deceased fictional character back to life, who would you resurrect and why?

I don't really want to answer this question because I'm afraid I'll spoil someone DX With that being said, MOCKINGJAY SPOILERS AHEAD!

(Primrose Everdeen)
She's just so innocent and sweet. I also feel really bad for Katniss because she lost so much and even though the Hunger Games was teaching its reader that the world was unfair, I still feel like Primrose shouldn't have died. Prim was my favorite character, which was a bit cliched, I admit.

A Thousand Colors

*I wrote this out of sheer boredom and it sucks >.<*

A Thousand Colors
Written by Anastasia
11/23/14

Paint me a thousand colors
Paint me the color of night
Paint me like a thousand stars
That appears after sunset's last light

Paint me a thousand colors
Paint me the color of dawn
Paint me with colors of birth
That appears as sunrise drags on

Paint me a thousand colors
Paint me like the ocean
Paint me like graceful waves
That are constantly in motion

Paint me a thousand colors
Paint me the color of spring
Paint me like cherry blossoms
That dances through the air while the birds chirp and sing

Paint me a thousand colors
Paint me the color of summer
Paint me like a thousand fireflies
That illuminates the night with lights too many to number

Paint me a thousand colors
Paint me the color of fall
Paint me like a thousand leaves
That begin to change colors at autumn's call

Paint me a thousand colors
Paint me the color of winter
Paint me like falling snow
That traps those outside who dare enter

Paint me a thousand colors
Paint me like the breeze
Paint me like the rustling wind
That rattles the trees' green leaves

Show me a thousand strokes
Show me the way you paint
Show me the canvas your brush lays on
Where your art comes alive, magnificent and quaint

My Little Wonderland

My Little Wonderland
Written by Anastasia
11/22/14

My name is Alice, but I don't live in a fairy tale
I lock myself in gloomy sad places, everyday without fail
But I have imagination and I dare to dream
Of a place where the sunlight sets glistening blue waters agleam
A place where the grass is greener and is soft as sand
I would call it my own little Wonderland
The fragrance in the air would smell strongly of past rain
To remind me that some things can wash away pain
I would lay in the sun, in a valley of flowers
Letting time tick by unnoticed, hour by hour
Just after rainfall, a splendid rainbow appears
Sparkling and glistening, like a colorful chandelier
It washes over the valley, painting the world with light
Making me smile and fill with delight
Yet, I have to remind myself that it's all a fantasy
That none of this happens in any reality
But I can still hold an image of my little world
What can I say? I like to dream. Yes, I'm that type of girl

Shattered

Shattered
Written by Anastasia
(written one or two months ago)

Tears stream down my face as I reread his letter
I honestly thought that he could make my life better
But there he goes, with his new girl
Leaving me alone with the rage that unfurled
I guess I was too young, too stupid, naïve
To see that he wasn't the one for me
I should've known that wherever he was, trouble was near
And yet I actually though, that with him, I'd have no fear
My world had been so joyful, but now filled with much pain
It's gloomy and sad, like a day of endless rain
He didn't deserve my love, didn't deserve my trust
Now my heart's shattered, and left to die in the dust

I gathered my secrets, locked them in my heart
I hid the key, yet when I met you, my secrets did depart
I didn't know; I couldn't have known you'd come along
I thought you were mine, yet in my heart, you didn't belong

I guess I was too young and stupid and naïve
It's funny how much love blinded me
I thought I couldn't fooled, that I was too strong
Yet it was only now that I realized I had been wrong

I thought I finally found someone who would treat me well
In contrast, you made my life a living hell
You were good at the game; you broke my defense
In your 'loving' company, I lost all common sense

You seemed so beautiful, in your personality and your looks
I thought I had found my happy ending, like it said in the books
I was too desperate and now everything crashed down on me
Truth was, a happy fairy tale ending was something I'd never see

I am broken, I am shattered, I will never be right
I'll always remember - forgetting is a harder fight
I spend my days crying and sobbing into my bed
and leaving the bathroom with my sleeves stained red
